Building a strong therapeutic relationship is an essential part of practicing CBT correctly . I remind them of these golden rules: 1. Be a nice human being in the room with every client. 2. Treat every client at every session the way you would like to be treated if you were a client. 3. Use important Rogerian counselling techniques and adapt them to the individual. 4. Be collaborative. 5. Ask for feedback. For the majority of clients with acute disorders, these rules help build trust and confidence. Other techniques may need to be used for clients with Personality Disorders and other conditions. (By Judith Beck)
